How to buy a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Gi - Choose the kimono best for you.

Summer is coming
hot weather is coming, and you might be thinking about getting a new gi. I sure am!

But what kind is best? Where should you go? What about reviews?

Here’s what I found that should help you out too.

First visit Gi Reviews’s What is a BJJ Kimono? You’ll see what each part of the gi is used for (ie, control, chokes, submissions, etc). The rest of the site has user reviews of many many many Kimono and Gi manufacturers, including Lucky Gi, Gameness etc.

Next, hope over to JokerJitsu’s description of the difference between Competition Lite, Gold, Single, Double, and Absolute weave? I especially like:

…Gi, like most garments, are really all about brand names and marketing. I will agree that for the most part, it is only huge companies have the money to research, develop, market and warranty a product and there is a lot of overhead running that type of operation. Still, the price discrepancy among most of the popular brands does little to justify or reflect the difference in quality …..MORE….

I noticed the same thing when I was buying my Kendo Bogu. Anywhos, the Joker guys also have a pretty comprehensive Gi Review section as well.

Once you decide what you want to buy, you can either contact the sellers directly or simply follow my lead - check out eBay. Here’s what’s currently available today:

‘Nuff said,
