MMA gear sales are increasing, even in a lousy economy
Ever wonder
just how mainstream MMA is getting to be?
Check out this article:
…Mixed martial arts are adding some punch to sporting goods sales, even in a wobbling economy.
Sales of MMA-related gear rose 12 percent in 2007, as more people began using mixed martial arts (also known as “ultimate fighting”) in their workout routines, according to the Sporting Goods Manufacturers’ Association.
“People in their 20s, 30s and 40s watch the ultimate fighters perform on TV, then get in shape using the same equipment the pros are using,” said the SGMA’s Mike May. American consumers spent $314 million on items such as heavy bags, grappling dummies, gloves and clothing in 2007, he said.
That’s more spent than on baseball bats ($216 million), soccer balls ($103 million) or ice hockey equipment ($206 million) ….MORE….
Because MMA is mixed martial arts, a variety of equipment is used, thus bolstering up sales.
